When Last We Left Off

The adventure continues...when last I wrote we were limping into Tok.  An axle on our camper bent, tires worn almost all the way through, on a Friday night.  Wearily, we found a nice parking lot to pull into, eager for a little rest.  We would regroup in the morning
Tok is a nice quiet town.  We were able to find someone that could do the repairs, but not until Monday.  This unexpected and abrupt halt was also just what we needed, a few days to just stay put and explore our new surroundings.  We found a nice little lake where Pride ingeniously manufactured a little raft to take his sister fishing.
Pride caught his first fish in Alaska, and surprisingly the kids did not take a swim.
From Tok we worked our way to Anchorage, then on to Soldotna.  Fishing, and fishing, and fishing a little more.

Enjoying delicious meals and beautiful views.  Traveling from Soldotna to Homer where we checked out the Spit.  A man made peninsula jutting out from the town out into the inlet.  This year the king salmon run is down and has been shut down in most areas.  An exception would be a little lagoon on the spit where groups hovered around elbow to elbow hoping to be the lucky fisherman with a big catch.  While in Homer we found signs that the Doctor was about and maybe up to mischief.
hmm...

From Homer we buzzed to another part of the Kenai Peninsula, Seward, then back up around Soldotna for some more fishing.  There is a little different technique to catching salmon as opposed to fly fishing for trout.  "Flossing," basically trying to snag the salmon's mouth.  If you snag any other body part, it doesn't count.  The exception would be Seward, just a little spot by the ocean where people can just snag em.  I have never seen anything like it!  People standing elbow to elbow, beating the water to a frothy boil.  With a barbaric treble hook , bludgeoning the water repeatedly until it yields its fishy goods.

Observing the erratic thrashing continued as we popped back to the Kenai river, witnessing combat fishing at it's finest.

A few fine catches of our own.

Well, it is time to be off again.  We are somewhere between Anchorage and Fairbanks.  North we go, off to explore this magnificent state.  Where will we land?  Who knows?  Not even us, but I do plan to enjoy every minute between now until we find where ever it is we are searching for.  Until next time...
